who built this
I've spent the last seven years in technical sound design and audio programming roles across game studios — building middleware glue, runtime DSP, asset pipelines, the unglamorous plumbing that keeps audio teams shipping. The site reflects what I'd want as a working tool, not what reads well to VCs.
why it exists
Every week LinkedIn surfaces another genuinely useful game audio tool. Most vanish into the feed within 72 hours. Awesome-lists go stale. Forum threads scroll into oblivion. Pros end up reinventing the wheel because they didn't know a better wheel existed.
The differentiator: every entry is structured so an AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, whatever you use) can fetch the canonical JSON and recommend tools based on the problem you describe — not just match on keywords.
what's in scope
Software tools that are useful to game audio professionals: middleware integrations, engine plugins, procedural and generative engines, asset pipeline tools, spatial / ambisonic tools, dialogue and localization tooling, interactive-music authoring, loudness and analysis tools. Commercial and OSS both welcome.
what's out of scope
SFX libraries and asset marketplaces (a different product), hardware (mics, field recorders, audio interfaces), and learning resources (courses, books, tutorials). These may get their own section eventually; co-mingling them with tools would dilute the directory's search quality.
how entries are made
Submissions arrive as pull requests. An automated step drafts a structured entry from the submitter's URL using Claude (extracting capability tags from a fixed controlled vocabulary, never inventing new ones). I review every draft personally before merging — usually within a week. The AI is implementation detail, not the product; the curation is the product.
